The Empty Breadbasket
When I lived in Zimbabwe it was the breadbasket of Southern Africa. Even during the drought years, we had enough food to export to neighbour countries who needed it. Mugabe has done what severe drought could not do. He has destroyed the breadbasket.

Tragic situation...am I wrong, or was he not hailed (light years ago) as the saviour of Zimbabwe..?
Greed is really something I do not understand at all (I'm not about to try either)...
So glad I found your blog + others on Beautiful Africa..:)
You're right. In many ways Mugabe started off well (although there was a dark side all along). If he'd been as wise as Mandela, he would probably remain a hero. Unfortunately, he has chosen a different path and the nation suffers.
Isn't Beautiful Africa a great carnival? If you have anything to contribute or run across anything you really like related to Africa, let the editors know so they can try to share with the rest of us readers.
